Maltitol is a polyol derived from maltose through hydrogenation and is available in both liquid and crystalline forms. The liquid product is manufactured from high-quality maltitol syrup. To be classified as maltitol, the raw material must contain over 60% maltose; otherwise, the maltitol content after hydrogenation would account for less than 50% of the total polyols and could not be designated as maltitol. The primary hydrogenation process involves the following steps: raw material preparation, pH adjustment, hydrogenation reaction, filtration and decolorization, ion exchange, evaporation and concentration, and finally, product formation.


Maltitol is a sugar alcohol commonly used as a sugar substitute in food and beverage products. It is derived from maltose, a natural sugar found in grains such as wheat, barley, and corn.
