Applications of Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC):
1. Food Industry
Extensively used in gluten-free and reduced-fat food formulations to enhance texture and mouthfeel.
Functions as a viscosity modifier, thickener, and emulsion stabilizer in products such as ice cream, sauces, and dressings.
Approved as a food additive in the EU with E number E466.
2. Detergent Industry
Employed in laundry detergents as a soil suspension polymer. It deposits onto cotton and cellulosic fabrics, forming a negatively charged barrier that prevents redeposition of soil during washing.
3. Pharmaceutical Products
